Caricatures for the Autism Society of Edmonton and Area

Edmonton's Autism Society had me out to their "Deck The Halls" celebration this evening. I had a great time drawing this guy! My favourite part of it is his smile!

Man with his caricature - love that smile!

Christmas Window Painting at Oakwood Towers Edmonton

Laura at Oakwood Towers sure puts in a lot of work decorating the lobby at The Oakwood Towers!

The people living there are lucky to have such a hard working woman there. Here are a few window paintings I did for her to add to all that she's put up. I believe this is my fourth year painting at their place. I keep thinking I'm not going to be able to hink of anything to put on the narrow windows next year! Somehow I probably will!

Christmas Window Painting at NewWest Travel

Today, while window painting, I got to listen to people booking trips to warmer places. Sigh. Oh how I'd love to put on a pair of shorts and head somewhere warm! Well, maybe AFTER Christmas. After all, there's nothing like snow at Christmas time!

Each year I scratch my head trying to come up with new images that are both Christmasy AND hit on taking a vacation. Here are this year's NewWest Travel windows. My favourite I think is the Santa. Or maybe it's the cool lookin' reindeer holding the map. Either way, I pat myself on the back for coming up with new stuff for them again this year … and also wonder what the heck I'm gonna do on their windows next year.

Christmas window painting at Hap's Restaurant

Hap's Restaurant on Edmonton's 161 Ave and Stoney Plain road (in West Edmonton) is one of my favourite places to window paint at. The owners, Hap and Mary, pretty much give me free reign on what I paint. Not to mention that Mary usually stays and decorates the restaurant while I paint and we chat about life and our families! She supplies me with bottomless tea, a nice meal and lots of laughs.

Hap's restaurant is a family owned business open during breakfast and lunchtime hours. Go in for some good food and cozy decor!

Grinch Face Painted

I don't post many photos of face painting that I do. Usually because they are mostly kids that I face paint on and I don't think of asking them. But this past weekend I painted a Grinch on a young woman's neck. I generally only like face painting my own art images but The Grinch is such a classic guy and loved by so many boys 7 - 12 years old, that I can't help myself. It was kinda funny at this event when a sweet little girl about 4 years old asked for a Grinch!

Western GMC has been "LAUREL-ITISED!"

Western GMC has been "LAUREL-ITISED!

What is "LAUREL-ITISED"? …. Well I think everywhere you turn at Western GMC you'll find some of my window painting! Jamie gave me instructions to "Go big! I want more than last year!" He wanted something all the way along the front of the showroom so I put Christmas bulbs. You'll find a big Santa, elves, Christmas tree, snowman (shown in a recent blog entry) and a couple more Santa designs in the Service Department (as shown here). Not to mention the a few window painting jobs of promotions that are still up and running. BOOM. It's been LAURELITISED!

Thanks Western GMC for giving me your windows as my canvas. You're awesome!

My Window Painting Before The Outlines

My Window Painting Before The Outlines. I thought this was interesting photos to show you - What my window paintings look like JUST BEFORE I do the black outlines. Kinda cool! You'll notice in the second photo that a penguin appears in the middle … He was done especially for Chantel who works at the desk right there. She requested a penguin so she got a penguin. If I did it right, I think it's in the perfect spot for her to look at all day. She had gone home by the time I got there to work on it so I hope it makes her smile when she goes into work in the morning!

Christmas windows at Shear Styling Studio

Christmas windows at Shear Styling Studio

Today I worked on window pintings for a new client, Shear Styling Studio in Edmonton. They wanted a winter scene on one set of windows and a holiday greeting. Their windows are tinted so I didn't think it would show up that well but I was pleasantly surprised! Glad to have been asked to add to their Christmas decorating. Yes, the snow is purple on the ground in this wintery scene.

The 2012 Edition of Christmas windows at Western GMC!

I love painting at Santa on their windows because they are so huge. This
Santa stands about 8 or 9 feet tall. Of course he's holding a key to one
of the cars in the showroom that I'd love to have!

The tall, thin window at the front entrance is always a spot that makes
me use my artistic brain a bit ... this year, it's elves! And I think
this snowman is very friendly and welcoming. They've asked me to come
in and add more than I did last year so there'll be another trip in! I
love their Christmas spirit!

window painting, THE LOOK INSIDE AND OUT

Edmonton Window Painting (inside) Christmas Tree
Edmonton Window Painting Christmas Star
This is what my windows look like from the inside and out. The close up
photo of the star and bit of the Christmas tree was taken from the
inside. I pride myself in making my window paintings look neat and tidy
and nice to look at on the inside as well as the outside. Why is it that
some window painters don't care about the inside?

To me, mine are a bit like stained glass art. And I do like, big and
bold images.

The full photo of the Christmas tree was taken from the opposite side
(the outside).

Window Painting at The Church of Scientology, Edmonton

Window Painting at The Church of Scientology, Edmonton
Window Painting - carollers, - Edmonton
I was asked to paint carollers at The Church of Scientology in downtown Edmonton this week. Sets of carollers on each side with them having a decorated Christmas tree in the middle!

I'm going to be busy this week and the next doing Christmas window painting. I always try and do a new little twist for the people I paint for each year. For them and for me - after all, I don't want to be bored doing them and I like trying to come up with new images for them. So this is the beginning of a lot of new posts showing my window painting every day! May my shoulder muscles hang in there! ….

Painting CFR Windows at The Westin Hotel Edmonton

Edmonton's Westin Hotel's Window Painting for CFR
Window Painting for CFR at Edmonton's Westin Hotel's
It's CFR (Canadian Finals Rodeo) time again in Edmonton, where cowboys
and cowgirls from all over come to compete and show their stuff. The
Westin hotel in downtown Edmonton has had me come in for a few years
now, to paint their windows celebrating the festivities. They always ask
that it be less cartoon and more realistic.

While I was there painting, I over heard some conversations where I had
to do a double take....some of the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian
Football League were sitting a few feet away from me. I couldn't help
but listen, whether I wanted to or not! Being an Edmonton Eskimos fan I
was both excited that I was seeing some football players but they were
going to be playing AGAINST MY TEAM in a few hours! One of the people
that work at the hotel told me that most football and hockey teams stay
there when they are in the city to play. Kinda cool!

Caricatures for a Friend's Party

my Friend and Son with their Caricature
My friend recently asked me to do caricatures at her dad's 70th birthday
party. All the guests seemed quite surprised hat they'd be getting a
caricature as a take home gift! When I drew my friend and was about to
see her caricature she said, "Oh I'm so excited! I've waited years to
get one of your caricatures! That's part of the reason I suggested to my
mom that we have you here!" I took that as quite a compliment. And it's
always nice to draw the whole family so they have a complete collection.

At the end of the party, when I say, "Thanks for having me." ... I
really mean it!
